Summary

Description Historic Checkered House in Cambridge, NY, built by Major James Cowden in 1765, painted with checkers and used by General Baum in the Battle of Bennington on August 15, 1777. The checkered paint was preserved solely on the front from 1853 but the building burned completely 7 February 1907, The Daughters of the American Revolution installed a commemorative plaque on August 25, 1921.
