Once again it must be reported that the field of the Mis-sion has been visited by the desolating- plagaie. In the pres-ence of the hundreds of famine orphans under the care andeducation of the Mission, there is a vivid permanent memo-rial of the last great famine. Dr. Williamson was married during the year to MissMackichan. the daughter of Principal Mackichan, of Bom-bay, but ill-health compelled the return of bodh of them toEurope. The Mission has been reinforced during the yearby Miss Sybel Brown, an experienced teacher in the Bostonpublic schools, who has gone out with particular referenceto the further industrial training of the children under theMissions care.1.56

WESTERN INDIA—KOLHAPUR. 157 KOLHAPUR STATION. The continued ill-health of Miss Wilder and her motherhas prolonged their stay in Europe. The plague raged very badly at Heria and carried away severalof our people there. David Hoapa, a very old man, the first con-vert of that place and a recognized leader of his community, died aiew months ago. He had to suffer a great deal of persecution fromthe hands of his people when he was the only Christian living amongthem, but he remained firm and thus became a nucleus of the smallChristian community at Herla. EVANGELISTIC.—There were twenty-four additions onprofession of faith to the Kolhapur church. The wholenumber of communicants is now 145. It has been foundvery difficult to hold all the converts gathered the past fewyears, as against the overpowering pressure brought tobear upon them to draw them back into Hinduism. Thereport of the pastor, Shivaram Masoji, says: It is very sad and discouraging to see so many of the new villageconverts d
