Summary

Description This is Rye Lifeboat Station's Talus MB-4H Amphibious tractor parked outside the station. It was designed in the early 1990s to RNLI specifications to recover inshore lifeboats from beach launched lifeboat stations. The designers and manufacturers are Clayton Engineering Ltd who are based in Powys, Wales. The tractor can work in up to two metres of calm water, if the tractor becomes inoperable during a retrieval, the driver can leave the cab via the roof and it can be left in up to four metres of water. The engine compartment is watertight but the cab lets in water to add weight to the tractor so that it will not float away.
