Located close to the Playfair steps in Edinburgh's Princes Street Gardens this plaque mounted on a free-standing stone recognises the contributions and sacrifices made by those from this region who fought in Spain. In total there were approximately 2,300 from the United Kingdom, arguably the most famous among them was Eric Blair best remembered as the author George Orwell who served with the POUM militiamen on the Arogon front.
