Een beveiligingsblok is een houten blok dat werd gebruikt als een hoorbaar beschermings- en alarmeringsmechanisme om de operator van een mijnwaterpompinstallatie onmiddellijk op de hoogte te stellen wanneer er te veel stoom werd toegevoerd en te weinig water werd opgepompt. Om machinebeschadiging te voorkomen, zou de operator dan onmiddellijk de stoomtoevoer afsluiten of verminderen.
English: Sacrifice block in the steam engine control house of the Taylor's Shaft East Pool mine. A sacrifice wooden block was used as an audible protective and alarm mechanism to immediately notify the operator of a mine water pumping installation when too much steam would be applied at low power pumping conditions. In order to prevent machine breakdown, the operator would then immediately shut down or reduce the steam inflow.

Ein Opfer-Holzblock wurde als akustischer Schutz- und Alarmmechanismus verwendet, um den Betreiber sofort über eine Wasserpumpanlage zu informieren, wenn bei niedrigen Leistungspumpbedingungen zu viel Dampf zugeführt wird. Um einen Maschinenausfall zu vermeiden, würde der Bediener dann sofort abschalten oder den Dampfzufluss reduzieren.
Français : Bloc de sacrifice dans la salle de contrôle de la machine à vapeur de la mine Taylor's Shaft East Pool.
