Description

San Giovanni degli Eremiti (Saint Jean des Ermites) à Palerme

C'est l'un des monuments les plus caractéristiques du style arabo-normand que l'on peut voir dans la ville de Palerme.

L'église a été construite par Roger II en 1132. Ses formes géométriques cubiques comme les cinq coupoles ont été construites par des maîtres artisans arabes auxquels Roger II faisait appel.

Cette église dont le plan est en croix latine est surmontée de 3 coupoles. Le transept à été doté d'un campanile.

Un petit monastère était contigu à l'église, il en subsiste un cloître.

L'ensemble des bâtiments est proche du palais des rois normands.
