Summary

Description Memorial to Knaresborough solicitor Samuel Powell (1778-1859), in St John the Baptist church, Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, England. Carving by Catherine Mawer. The IHS symbol was derived originally from the first three letters of Jesus' name in Greek, but is usually translated as "Christ the Redeemer".
