Pier 11B, shown here, was somewhere near the south end of today's larger Pier 66. The Smith Tower can barely be made out in the mist in the distance.

Written at the bottom of the photo is "Auto Accident at R.R. Ave". The accident is not immediately obvious. Judging by the directions some of the bystanders are looking, a car might have gone into the water at center, but there is no obvious break in the wooden railing. Or the accident scene could be blocked by the watching men. A car directly in front of Pier 11B appears to be in the midst of the road at a somewhat odd angle, so it could also be somehow involved.
