| Description |
The 'small' pinnace "Sparrow Hawk" left London in June, 1626 with colonists for Virginia. Six weeks later, she was wrecked on a beach at Orleans, Massachusetts and her hull was buried by shifting sand, finally to be uncovered and removed for reconstruction in 1863. "Sparrow-Hawk" is the oldest known wreck from the early 17th century when England 'planted' colonies in eastern North America. This draft of the "Sparrow-Hawk"'s hull lines was done by Dennison J. Lawlor in 1865. At this time, Lawlor was one of Boston's most famous naval architects. He produced a lines plan and rigged model with two masts that had a great influence on the final reconstruction of the "Sparrow-Hawk"'s hull that was exhibited in several cities 1865+. | ||
