Summary

Description
English: St Andrew's church. St Andrew's church > 1357698 - 1357739 once used to share the churchyard with another church, St Mary's, of which no trace remains. St Andrew's church dates mainly from the 13th century. Its round tower is Saxo-Norman but the octagonal top was added at some time later, presumably during the 15th century. The main east window is C13, the east window of the north aisle contains some interesting medieval glass > 1357800 that is flanked by two later roundels depicting St Stephen > 1357815 and St Paul > 1357826 - originating from King's College, Cambridge. The octagonal font > 1357829 dates from the 15th century as does the rood screen, which retains much of its original colour > 1357759. The 19th century box pews in the aisles > 1357784 are graduated in size according to the status of their occupants and there are some older benches with poppy-headed ends. The chancel houses a number of monuments to the Stone family > 1357750 - lords of Bigod's Manor from the 16th to the 19th century. This church is open every day as are all churches in the care of the Hempnall Group.
