Vajen Head Protector. Manufactured by Vajen-Bader Company, Richmond, Indiana USA in 1891. Used by rescue parties to remove victims overcome by gases in confined areas - (such as smoke filled buildings) - atmospheric air pumped into tank by hand pump (next to hood) and there is a whistle (in front of hood) for attracting attention.
It consists of a leather hood with lenses made of mica which have wiper pads that clear the vision with a twist of the dial.
