English: St Joseph's Cathedral in Gulu is a monument to the faith of the first Christians and to the skill of the Comboni missionary brothers. Its construction started in 1931 and completed in 1941. The local Christians baked 800,000 bricks from Oitino river and every Sunday they carried the bricks on their heads to this site after mass. The cathedral was consecrated on 13th June 1947 in honor of St Joseph, spouse of the blessed Virgin Mary. The cathedral also houses the remains of bishop Angelo Negri and Cipriano Kihangire.
Pope John Paul II entered the cathedral in 1993 while on a visit to Uganda and adored the Holy Eucharist.
