Stemma araldico

Lo Stemma araldico del Corpo di Polizia Penitenziaria, concesso con Decreto del Presidente della Repubblica del 31 maggio 1999, si compone di:

• scudo di forma sannitica, con punta in basso;
• corona turrita d’oro;
• una lista bifida d’oro, riportante il motto;
• fronde circondanti lo scudo;

Lo Scudo

Troncato: nel 1° d'argento, a tre fiamme d'azzurro; nel 2° palato di quattro d'argento e d'azzurro; alla fascia diminuita attraversante di rosso.

L'azzurro delle fiamme sull’argento del campo, nel primo, sono i colori tradizionali del Corpo. La fiamma rappresenta la speranza del recupero, nella società, della persona in espiazione della pena, compito istituzionale del Corpo (Articolo n° 27 della Costituzione Italiana). La fascia diminuita di rosso ricorda il sangue versato dagli uomini del Corpo degli Agenti di Custodia e dalle Vigilatrici Penitenziarie - oggi Corpo di Polizia Penitenziaria – a difesa delle istituzioni democratiche e delle sue Leggi. La pezza onorevole del palato di quattro, nei colori tradizionali, è simbolo di fermezza e di stabilità nella missione assegnata.

Sulla lista bifida e svolazzante d’oro, sotto lo scudo, è scritto, in lettere maiuscole nere, il motto: "DESPONDERE SPEM MUNUS NOSTRUM" ("garantire la speranza è il nostro compito").

Due fronde, di quercia e di alloro, legate entrambe da nastro tricolore e circondanti lo scudo.
