Summary
| Description | Gwen Nelson, Levan Imedadze and Nana Kacheishvili of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Europe District’s Caucasus Project Office take part in an inspection June 18 of the Supsa Fusion Center in western Georgia. They were joined by John Curren of the Export Control and Related Border Security program and Georgia coast guard members. The facility’s ribbon-cutting ceremony took place six days later – VIP attendees included U.S. Ambassador Richard Norland, Georgia Minister of Internal Affairs Alexander Chikaidze and General-Major Zurab Gamezardashvili, head of the nation’s Internal Affairs border police. The radar station and fusion center on the Black Sea near Supsa features a new 13,000-square-foot, two-story building adjacent to the existing radar station, as well as a new generator building, transformer, well, wastewater treatment plant and fence with swing gate. The complex serves as the Georgia coast guard’s central radar control. The $911,000 facility, constructed in partnership with the EXBS program and U.S. Embassy in Georgia, will provide critical border services and boost strategic regional-security cooperation goals.
