Summary

Description

A glass of Svyturys Baltijos from Švyturys (Carlsberg) in Klaipeda, Lithuania, on draft at Kavine Pašiūrė in Nida.

The roots of Svyturys dates back to 1784 when merchant J. W. Reincke established a brewery in Memel, East Prussia, now known as Klaipėda in Lithuania. The brewery was named Švyturys, Lithuanian for "the lighthouse", when it was rebuilt after World War II. Baltijos is a 6% abv Oktoberfest or Märzen type of beer developed in the 1960s and still very popular in Lithuania.

Svyturys Baltijos poured a beautiful, clear golden red color with a white head. It smelled faintly of sweet caramel. It had a medium heavy mouthfeel with a soft texture. The taste was dominated by a sweet caramel malt character with hints of roasted bitterness. Not very exciting but a decent dark lager.
