English: Landing exercise of a tank destroyer battalion (TD Bn) with one or more companies underway on a beach at Slapton Sands in England. In the foreground are rolls of anti-silting wire mesh called Sommerfeld tracking. This Sommerfeld triangular mesh wire mesh can be seen here. An M10 tank destroyer in the foreground is nicknamed "Bessie". Behind "Bessie" there is an M8 Greyhound reconnaissance vehicle with a Harley-Davidson WLA on the rear deck. The tanks are equipped with deep wading snorkels. A Caterpillar D7 angleDozer with LaPlant-Choate hydraulics is on the beach. Two LCTs and the USS LST-325' are in the background, in front of which men and tanks are unloading. |
