‘The First Paddle Steamer to Navigate the Exe up to Exeter’, an oil on canvas attributed to artist W.H. Cox, c. 1832. The painting depicts a study of a paddle steamer sailing along the river Exe. A figure stands on the deck pointing the way. At the time this painting was executed paddle steamers were a new sight, and made water travel much more efficient.
