Summary

Description
English: The Tontine Hotel opposite the northern end of the Ironbridge. This is a popular name for hotels in this part of the country. A tontine was a private club to which members contributed. The principle was that the last surviving member would inherit all of the funds, which could be considerable. This led to a lot of "premature deaths" and as a result tontines were outlawed.
