Summary

Description
English: The Tanda Pits, located in Tanda Village, Mityana District, in Uganda are ancient shafts considered sacred in Buganda Kingdom's traditions. Historically, they're associated with the legend of Walumbe, the god of death, and his conflict with his brother, leading to the creation of over 290 pits. The site, replete with shrines, serves as a pilgrimage for those seeking blessings, healing, and connection with ancestral spirits. While science suggests these pits were used for iron ore extraction in antiquity, their spiritual significance in Buganda lore remains paramount. The site is currently under the management of the Buganda Kingdom.
