Summary

Description The U.S. Military Sealift Command cable transport ship USNS Furman (T-AK-280) underway in Agana Bay, Guam. The ship had been launched as SS Furman Victory, a Maritime Commission type VC2-S-AP5 hull, and had been chartered by civilian operators from 1946 to 1953 when it was laid up in the National Defense Reserve Fleet, James River Group, Virginia (USA). It was acquired by the U.S. Navy on 18 September 1963 and placed in service with the Military Sea Transportation Service (MSTS) as USNS Furman (T-AK-280) until being retired in 1986.
