Description
English: Pacific Ocean (July 16, 2004) - The modular cargo delivery system ship SS Cape Girardeau (T-AK 2039) steams with USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) as an HH-60H Seahawk assigned to the "Black Knights" of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Four (HS-4) returns to pick up another load of supplies during a Vertical Replenishment (VERTREP). Cape Girardeau was recently removed from the "Mothball Fleet" to participate in exercises at sea. The crew of Cape Girardeau is comprised of Naval Reservists as well as civilian crewmembers. Stennis and Carrier Air Wing Fourteen (CVW-14) are taking part in Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2004. RIMPAC is the largest international maritime exercise in the waters around the Hawaiian Islands. This year's exercise includes seven participating nations; Australia, Canada, Chile, Japan, South Korea, United Kingdom and United States. RIMPAC is intended to enhance the tactical proficiency of participating units in a wide array of combined operations at sea, while enhancing stability in the Pacific Rim region.
