Description
English: Upādhyāyula Sūryanārāyaṇa Rāo (1923–1971) was an author, editor, journalist and playwright, who lived and worked in Vijayanagaram, Andhra Pradesh. He was the grandson of Srīmadajjāḍa Ādibhaṭla Nārāyaṇa Dās.

Most of his work was in Telugu but he wrote in English too. He worked as correspondent for "Āṅdhra Prabha" and "Indian Express". He also freelanced for other publications like "Rūpavāṇi" (film and political monthly published from Madras), "Svataṅtra" (political fortnightly published in English and Telugu from Madras) and "Jyōti" (political weekly published from Vijayawada).

He worked as Associate Editor for "Advertiser" a local weekly. He founded and edited "Navanītam" the first Digest type magazine in Telugu.

His plays include "Vijayanagara Vībhavamu" and adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore's "Kabūliwālā" as a shadow play in Telugu. He translated Somerset Maugham's play "Penelope" as "Pañkajākṣi" in Telugu. It was serialized in "Andhra Prabha" weekly and later published in book form. He also translated into Telugu and published a selection of Guy de Maupassant's short stories.
