The view in this painting was from the home of Hammershøi's friend and benefactor Alfred Bramsen, who lived on the corner of Stormgade and Frederiksholms Kanal in Copenhagen. The dark building to the left is Staldmestergaarden, and the tall red building is Materielgaarden. The scenery was seen in November on a misty and overcast day.
