Pictured are Vilhelm Pedersen himself, marine scene painter F. Th. Kloss and Harald Peter Oxholm as well as two Turks before a courtyard of an oriental house. The picture was probably made on a journey undertaken by the artist on the fregatta Thetis through the Meditarannean Sea in 1842. The painting was inspired by Constantin Hansen's famous picture 'Eine Gesellschaft dänischer Künstler in Rom' in 1837.

PROVENANCE: Private collection, Northern Germany; formerly auction Bruun Rasmussen 28.11.2001, lot 165, provenance provided there as 'ehemals im Besitz der Familie des Künstlers' [formerly in the property of the artist's family].

CONDITION: Minor craquelure, scattered isolated retouching.
