Deutsch: Die Kreuz- bzw. Prinz-Eugen-Kapelle im Stephansdom in der österreichischen Bundeshauptstadt Wien. Die Kapelle wurde von den Herren von Tirna, eine ritterliche Wiener Bürgerfamilie, gestiftet und zwischen 1358 und 1362 an der Nordwestecke des Domes errichtet. Wegen des großen holzgeschnitzten Kruzifixes, das man vor 1685 hier anbrachte, erhielt die Kapelle den Namen Kreuzkapelle. In der Gruft der Kapelle ist Prinz Eugen von Savoyen († 1736) und Emanuel Thomas von Savoyen († 1729), ein Neffe Prinz Eugens, beigesetzt. Ab 1852 wurde die Kreuzkapelle umgestaltet. Unter anderem erhielt dabei in Ergänzung zu dem spätgotischen Kruzifix die Altarwand ein Fresko, das die Ereignisse auf Golgotha darstellt und das Johann Ender 1853 malte. |
