English: William Brooks (b 1858-d 1937) Alderman for Bourke Ward, 2 June 1919 to 31 December 1927. Member of the Finance Committee, 1919-1927 and its Vice-Chairman in 1923; the Works Committee, 1919-1924; and the Health and By-Laws Committee, 1925-1927. Brooks was a member of the Legislative Council, 1917 - 1934. He was the president of the Master Printers and Connected Trades Association, 1911-1912, a member of the Chamber of Manufactures of New South Wales, 1914-1915, and was on the council of the Employers Federation of New South Wales, 1913, and its President 1914-1924. Brooks was co-founder of the Soldiers Club in 1915, helped organise the Returned Soldiers Association, and became a trustee of the Anzac Memorial Fund. He also served as the Honorary Treasurer for the Australian National Defence League in 1933 and President of the Adult Deaf and Dumb Society of New South Wales, 1925-1935.
