Description
English: The Japan Meteorological Agency’s GMS-5 satellite captured this visible imagery at 06:00 Coordinated Universal Time on August 17, 1997, featuring Typhoon Winnie having the largest eye ever recorded, tied with Typhoon Carmen of 1960. At the time, Winnie had 1-minute sustained winds of 85 mph (140 km/h), and the Japanese Meteorological Agency estimated Winnie's minimum central pressure at 945 millibars. Winnie was 513 kilometers from land.
