Summary

Description
English: The opening of Yosemite Valley to vehicles on June 17, 1874, led to a significant increase in the number of visitors. Several transport routes, including the Coulterville Road (June 1874) Big Oak Flat Road (July 1874) and the Wawona Road (1875), were established. The completion of the first transcontinental railroad around the same period, along with the extension of Central Pacific Railroad services to towns in the San Joaquin Valley, facilitated tourism from across the nation. From the railway terminals in Stockton, Modesto, Copperopolis, Berenda, Merced, and Madera, seven routes competed to ferry tourists via stagecoach to Yosemite Valley.
