Togo[edit]

Has Togo ever been a member of the NATO?

I do not believe so, no.

NyuclearTrigger (talk) 09:40, 24 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

So what colour should it be? Light blue? Chipmunkdavis (talk) 09:51, 24 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No, it never has been. If it isn't the USA, Canada, or in Europe, that's a no. As for what color it SHOULD be, I have no idea who Togo was aligned with in 1980.
I guess Togo is a mistake. It really should be changed though. --Ulkomaalainen (talk) 06:40, 2 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Translations[edit]

Polish is on the list twice. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.14.32.110 (talk) 12:32, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Joegoslavië[edit]

Joegoslavië was een communistisch land. Yugoslavia was a communist country.94.226.177.10 (talk) 14:15, 14 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes it was. It wasn't aligned with the USSR or with China though, which is what Red and Yellow represent. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.33.168.113 (talk) 03:58, 10 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Chinese allies and colouring of neutral countries[edit]

If I am not mistaken, the only Chinese ally coloured in this map is Albania, so maybe one shouldn't put "allies" in the plural in the description, though that's minor (also is it true?). The I would suggest not using a lighter shade of blue for unaligned countries, since blue is already used for NATO&Co. Maybe a light pale green? While it is possibly true that many to most of these countries were more closely leaning towards the west, in terms of alignment this gives a wrong impression for the purpose of this map. --Ulkomaalainen (talk) 06:40, 2 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Albania broke with China in the 1977-1978 period. See: Sino-Albanian split. --Mrdie (talk) 00:01, 10 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mistakes[edit]

Sudan, Egypt, Chad, Malawi, Togo, Cote d'Ivoire, Tunisia, Gabon, and Central African Republic were Western allies. Tanzania is mistakenly labeled as a Soviet ally, while Mexico is mistakenly labeled as a Western ally (both countries were non-aligned; Tanzania had good relations with both the West and East, and Mexico was neutral - see 'Estrada Doctrine'). India was a Soviet ally. The Philippines should have a red 'X' on it, because it was dealing with Communist guerrillas (NPA). Josh (talk) 05:34, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Also, there is a border between Kaliningrad Oblast and the rest of the USSR; and there are two grey areas of the USSR near the Sino-Afghan border. Livingod (talk) 05:42, 6 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Missing Guatemala[edit]

Guatemala should have a red x, to indicate the URNG rebels. Also the red x on Costa Rica, what does it refer too? GuinessRecordBreaker (talk) 06:02, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Iran is blue???[edit]

I think something might have happened in 1979 that changed that... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.93.157.101 (talk) 19:36, 15 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

India as a non-alignment country[edit]

India has always been a leading nation in non-alignment movement and has always followed a non-alignment policy since its freedom. It would be a mistake to place it with other allies of USSR as it wasn't official ally of any country. It maintained diplomatic relations with both sides. So it must be in light blue color of non-aligned nations.

Costa Rica[edit]

Some Mistakes on the map[edit]

Kaliningrad Oblast was shown separate from the Soviet Union, but it should be drawn as a part of the Soviet Union. Also, the islands off the coast of Bangladesh should belong to Bangladesh, so those islands should be colored light red.--ZYjacklin (talk) 01:15, 3 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
