I wonder what Bosch was saying in this painting. Is he depicting the religious onlookers as being tricked by the magician? If so, perhaps he is comparing the magician to religion. Perhaps he is saying that the religious onlookers are being tricked by religion; being tricked by themselves for believing in something which is not true.
