Disposition of NF template[edit]

Curious as to the correct policy in this case. This image file was used on the Portal:Record production/FA on display page back in 2012 as seen by [this edit]. So can the {{Non-free use rationale album cover}} template be removed for that page? or should it still be kept as historical? (Added to this file with [this edit].) Remove. This fails WP:NFCC #9. This is not being used in the article namespace. --Jayron32 18:55, 31 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much, editor Jayron32! Maybe the editor who placed the template for use in portalspace, John Cline, received some kind of special permission? or maybe it was okay to use NF images in portalspace back in 2012? P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'r there 21:11, 31 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Paine Ellsworth, I appreciate being notified of this discussion, and certainly appreciate the assumptions of good faith extended on my behalf. Frankly, I was in err for believing (at the time) that I could display the non-free image in portal space. I learned of my error and discontinued the effort within the first two or three weeks. It would have been my intention to remove the fair use rationale once the image was no longer displayed and certainly, to avoid propagating misinformation, it should be removed. Thanks again, be well, and best regards.--John Cline (talk) 05:32, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
my pleasure! and the NF template for the portalspace usage has been removed from the file page. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'r there 05:44, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
