fr.peter whelan was born in loughnageer ,in what is now clongeen parish ,diocese of ferns in 1802.he was son of a farmer william whelan & his wife marcella colfer of killesk.his paternal grandparents were thomas whelan & mary rossiter whose headstone is in owenduff graveyard.i recognised his photo when i researched his life,as i had seen this photo when i was brought up in the same house as fr. peter.my grandmother was mary curtis nee whelan was the great grand daughter of his brother james .my father kevin whelan was the great grandson of his other brother nicholas whelan.
