Shi'a Distribution[edit]

The changes made to this map by Qizilbash on August 3, 2010 and continued in subsequent revisions contains a number of errors, for example the presence of Jafari Shi'a in Sumatra. That being said, the file should be revised rather than deleted, due to the need for some form of graphic distribution and the lack of alternatives. MrOakes (talk) 07:08, 27 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ismailis of Northern Pakistan[edit]

There is quite a large area in Northern Pakistan that is Ismaili majority which has not been represented on the map. These regions border the Ismaili majority areas shown in China and Tajikistan and include Hunza, and the Ghizer District in Gilgit-Baltistan and the Northern half of the Chitral District in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Please make these additions/changes. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 119.153.34.15 (talk) 21:10, 7 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dominant madhhab in Syria now Shāfiʿī, no longer Ḥanafī[edit]

"There is a serious error in the Wikipedia map: Syria is predominantly Shafi'i, not Hanafi. Prior to the Ottoman conquest, Syria was Shafi'i with a tiny Hanbali minority in Damascus. Ottoman influence led to the spread of the Hanafi school in major towns but not in the countryside. Moreover, the Hanafi school has lost ground throughout the 20th century because of the disappearance of Ottoman institutions. Another reason is that the most prominent families of scholars, who were often Hanafis, have gradually abandoned the religious career. As a result, the upper levels of the religious hierarchy have been gradually occupied by newcomers, the majority of which have been Shafi'is." Posting by Thomas Pierret to the Sociology of Islam listserv, 3 April 2011. Unfortunately, I'm not savvy enough to edit the map myself; perhaps someone else can take on this job? — Preceding unsigned comment added by AlbrechtH (talkcontribs) 09:23, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please remove the Jaffari orange color off Dubai, it is very misleading, the United Arab Emirates is mostly Sunni country, And Dubai has a very small minority of Shia, The Image is wrong.

Gray areas[edit]

There are considerable number of muslims living in India (200+ million), Russia (2/3 of moscow, Many parts of siberia), US (3 million), Canada, China (20 million), the EU (45 million).. Muslim population in those countries are larger than anywhere else. Why are they colored gray then? Is there an official criteria that shows which countries will be on "muslim world" map? --94.123.224.180 (talk) 18:33, 31 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Why aren't Zahiri shown[edit]
