This mosque was started in 1951. 14 Punjab Regiment that was stationed at that time at Jhelum Cantt, was responsible for its construction. Its Col Commandant Stick Lane initiated its construction. He saw worshippers under a banyan tree as the original mosque was too small for the prayer. The colonel collected money from all ranks: Sipahi 3Rs/month, Havaldar 5 Rs/month, Subedar 10 Rs/month from all units of the regiment. He collected from otehr units too. Soldiers were standing like chain from kiln to the construction site and they brought it by hand to hand. The colonel thought to plan the mosque like Shahi mosque Lahore. General Ayub Khan inaugurated the mosque.

Bashir Ahmed resident 208 West Colony Jhelum Cantt who was the witness of the construction of this mosque narrated the above story.
