Ippolita Sforza (aka Raphael) was the daughter of the rightful heir of Milan, nice of the usurper, nice of the Holy Roman Emperor, granddaughter of the King of Naples and related by blood and marriage to the houses of the papal states, Spain and France. Pope Julius wanted to keep Ippolita, Bona, Francesco, Gian and Isabella close by for political reasons. Raphael and her friends were allowed to color on his walls, ceilings and floors.
