The current version is inferior to the original because i) the added hyphens in the column headings serve no purpose but to distract as clutter, and ii) the obsolete characters should not be given equal emphasis (i.e. the table has been made inaccurate for the topic of hiragana, as with regard to a contemporary rather than historical language). What's the point, Crissov, it seems you just wanted to add colour and your own style to the article, but you've not kept the capacity of the table to convey its message correctly. 203.173.15.7 (talk) 00:38, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

Ri

I am having a lot of trouble recognizing the "ri" character in this. It is drawn in 2 distinct parts with a space between it, and I understand character can look like that: り but did you ever notice in Times New Roman that it doesn't? It's like one big connected symbol with no space like a backwards C. Ranze (talk) 10:03, 2 February 2016 (UTC)

• Yeah, it usually is connected in my (limited) experience, I've never seen it separate in printed text. The version on this table looks more like the katakana version (リ). It talks more about it on the individual kana page for ri, but it is written with the assumption that the combined version is the secondary version, even though the fonts used for the typed text are combined.
