[edit]Under United States law, "titles, names [...]; mere variations of typographic ornamentation, lettering, or coloring" are not eligible for copyright. Copyright Office Basics
- I am doubtful of this explanation. Is a signature a mere variation of typographic ornamentation or lettering? Is there precedent for this in courts? --causa sui talk 04:48, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
- I believe the guidelines outlined on Copyright Office Basics are applicable to the usage of this image for the purposes of the article. I do not know of a court case challenging the usage of an image of a signature, specifically a case that would apply to this particular usage. Please let me know if you find a law or court case that would prohibit the usage of Image:Tim Kaine Signature.png for the purposes of the Tim Kaine article. - Comment - and are original research which have not been verified to the source's authentication and permission (Tim Kaine). One file claims it is "Own work by uploader, traced by hand from" the other taken from an e-mail. Neither meets the claim for "contains no original authorship" as presented, because they are stolen. Both violate the authenticators copyright. They should be deleted for violating copyright and OR.
