Karjat (Pronunciation: [kəɾd͡zət̪]) is a city administered under a Municipal Council in Raigad district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is served by Karjat railway station. Karjat forms a part of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Karjat is located approximately at an equidistant of 100 km (62 mi) from Mumbai and Pune. The river Ulhas flows through the city.
Demographics
[edit]In the 2011 Indian census, Karjat had a population of 29,663. Males constituted 51% of the population and females 49%. The literacy rate in Karjat was 88.38%, higher than the state average of 82.34%. In Karjat, male literacy is around 91.65% while female literacy rate is 84.94%. Population of Children with age of 0-6 is 3039 which is 10.25% of the total population.[1]
