This is a list of the 189 present earls in the Peerages of England, Scotland, Great Britain, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. It does not include extant earldoms which have become merged (either through marriage or elevation) with marquessates or dukedoms and are today only seen as subsidiary titles. Order of precedence

The general order of precedence among earls is:

  1. Earls in the Peerage of England
  2. Earls in the Peerage of Scotland
  3. Earls in the Peerage of Great Britain
  4. Earls in the Peerage of Ireland created before 1801
  5. Earls in the Peerage of the United Kingdom and Earls in the Peerage of Ireland created after 1801
