Colour use and rambling about problems with the map

[edit]

I'm struggling to decide how to use the key. We have:

  1. Red
    1. Iraqi Government
    2. Syrian Government
    3. Lebanese Government
  2. Yellow
    1. Iraqi Kurds
    2. Syrian Kurds
    3. Hezbollah and PFLP-GC
  3. Green
    1. Al-Nusra Front and Sunni militants (Lebanon only)
    2. Misc Rebels (Syria only)
  4. Black
    1. ISIS (all maps)
  5. Grey
    1. Al-Nusra (Syria only)
  6. Blue (Not actually in use, but used to be so may confuse)
      1. Not in use? Pardon? Half of Lebanon is Blue! But not among the keys. Still it is among the 'mixed-control'. Now that IS confusing! Either re-colour these or put blue in the keys.
    1. Local Tribe (Not used, Syria and Iraq map but neither individually, formerly in Syrian map)
    2. Assyrian Militia (Formerly in Iraq map, no longer in key)

Previous attempts to change colours on related articles have been poorly received, as considered to be POV-pushing, so discuss on the relevant pages.

In addition we have:

  1. Israeli occupied Syria striped (Which has an RfC ongoing here RfC: File:Syria and Iraq_2014-onward War map.png not used to highlight Israel)
  2. 4 colours of shading in Syrian Cities, plus their overlaps which create more colours.

Additional Issues:

  1. Lebanese-Syrian border crossings.
  2. It's probably not worth try to exhaustively list two-way-fights in the key
  3. A lack of towns and cities in Lebanon to work with for derivative maps (I've decided not to put up my colouring of this one up)
  4. I'm personally not convinced this map is worth using because of the limited amount of fighting in Lebanon, and it's not particularly relevant to the Iraqi and Syrian conflicts in my opinion.
  5. Only 2 content updates to Module:Lebanese_Insurgency_detailed_map since 10 November makes me doubt the accuracy of information.

Obviously, no one has to deal with any of the above (Wikipedia:What_Wikipedia_is_not#Wikipedia_is_not_compulsory), but I personally see a lot of problems.--John Smith the Gamer (talk) 01:26, 29 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Color of Hezbollah-controlled areas in Lebanon

[edit]
Syrian Civil War and regional spillover map

A related discussion is currently ongoing concerning the color of Hezbollah-controlled areas in Lebanon. It is argued whether the Lebanese government should be blue and Hezbollah red (like Syrian Ba'athist regime and its allies), or alternatively that Hezbollah should be blue but Lebanese Government as red (arguing that in each country the legitimate government is colored as red on the map). The problem of course arises at the combined regional map in case Lebanese government is colored red - making the Lebanese government and Syrian government forces the same color, while making Hezbollah - a staunch ally of Baathist Syria, into blue; also Hezbollah-controlled areas in Syria and Hezbollah-controlled areas in Lebanon show in different colors (Syria in red together with the Assad forces, but in Lebanon blue). Obviously it creates a complete incoherence with the combined regional war interactive map Template:Syrian, Iraqi and Lebanon Conflicts detailed map, and the regional spillover map which is based on it (right). Please discuss it at Lebanese Insurgency detailed map page.GreyShark (dibra) 18:54, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Roads

[edit]

Adding major roads/highways to this map might be a good idea. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.194.228.225 (talk) 01:39, 5 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Middle East insurgency map

[edit]

Why don't create a Middle East insurgency map, showing Syrian and Iraqi civil wars, the Lebanese conflict, the turkish insurgency, the Sinai insurgency and far south the Yemeni civil war, all in the same map? A simple Wikipedian (said and did) 04:58, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Um simples Wikipedista: This is indeed the aim - see template:Middle East insurgencies detailed map.GreyShark (dibra) 11:43, 24 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ezidi militias and Peshmerga conquered at least five villages near Shengal/Sinjar

[edit]

Hello,

I just wanted to report that the kurdish troops in Iraq conquered at least five villages near Sinjar the last few days. If I knew the name of the villages and how to edit the Module, I would do it but sadly I don't know so far. The sources: http://www.nrttv.com/EN/Details.aspx?Jimare=4085 http://www.euronews.com/2016/03/25/isil-suffers-series-of-blows-in-iraq-and-syria/

question about map timeline

[edit]

Hi, Im watching this map closely since it started in 2011-2 and i would like to know if anybody made a timeline (preferably animated) of war with this map. Or if the data of changes over time are stored somewhere Thank you in advance for any info. Best regards, Darius

The template crash, can anyone fix it?

[edit]

Hi, the template crashed 3 days ago, can anyone fix it? Where's the problem from?

Posting to report the same. It's becoming a pain in the ass to open multiple maps to track cross-border activity. - 175.144.28.30 (talk) 07:51, 24 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hezbollah is labelled with the wrong color in the key

[edit]

Hezbollah currently is labelled in pink, but I believe shows up blue on the map.
