Special arrangements were made to allow a translator and a Secret Service agent to be initiated as well at an abridged initiation ceremony. Unfortunately, his wife, Raisa fell ill the day before, and was hospitalized in Bethesda, MD. President Gorbachev never made it to Rochester. His initiation to the Fraternity was conducted by mail, and he remains on the books as a Brother of the Xi Zeta chapter.
