History

[edit]

The railroad was built with the purpose of transporting lime produced in the Gato Preto neighborhood, municipality of Cajamar, to the tracks of the São Paulo Railway (SPR) in the neighborhood of Perus, municipality of São Paulo. The concession for the construction of the railroad was obtained in 1910 by Silvio de Campos, Mario W. Tibiriçá and Clemente Neidhardt, and its operations began in 1914. In 1925, on the banks of km 0+700 of the railroad, the Brazilian Portland Cement unit was built, the first cement factory in Brazil, whose transportation and supply of raw material became the main activity of the railroad.[1]
