- "runners up" debating over whether this should be hyphenated...
- "highest gate for" I would say attendance.
- Link "volley" (and in the main prose).
- "a last minute " definitely "last-minute"
- "Coventry won 3–1 to " OH REALLY?
- "unsuccessful finishing" comma betwixt.
- You suddenly add EFL : "from EFL League"...
- "At the end of the season..." sentence is too long and repeats League One/Two... split which may help both.
- "knock-out" is not linked to what you had hoped for...
- "edition the" of.
- No apostrophe in Queen's Park Rangers.
- "victorious by 2–1 " odd phrasing for me, maybe "won 2–1"
- Link Kassam Stadium.
- "rout" is a bit POV.
- "2016–17 Football League Trophy" EFL Trophy.
- Ref 12 doesn't back up the teams in Group D.
- Should Southern Group D be capitalised as a formal title?
- "In their first match" reiterate Cov, last team mentioned was West Ham academy.
- "setting a record " set.
- General: is it worth a footnote explaining why Cov are playing in Brum? You mentioned the stadium move and as that's quite a rarity (for most of us) perhaps it needs a bit of background.
- This match was actually before the move to Brum, which was at the end of the 18-19 season. The fact refers to the attendance at the Ricoh Arena (which was mentioned in the previous sentence), since Cov moved there in 2005. I have added the year to clarify that point. — Amakuru (talk) 14:16, 3 August 2020 (UTC)
- Ruben Lameiras has a diacritic on his u.
- I'm really not a fan of that table format, it's confusing enough for me and I understand the format. Also is it MOS:ACCESS compliant? Embedding one table inside another is grim...
- The format was a modified version of 2019 UEFA Champions League Final#Road to the final, which I assumed was the general way to layout a route-to-the-final section with a group stage and knockout. 2018_FIFA_World_Cup_Final#Road_to_the_final also has something similar, with prose too, but I preferred the format with each team's run within their section rather than in a huge wide thing at the top. Maybe we can run it by WT:FOOTY to get some input on the recommended format? — Amakuru (talk) 14:16, 3 August 2020 (UTC)
- Any reason that Crawley isn't linked?
- "they fielded a weakened team " who's they?
- "The Sky Blues' " introduce the nickname.
- "Marvin Sordell scored .." unless ambiguous, no need to normally repeat first names.
- "their best football of the tournament so far. " subjective, if someone is claiming this, attribute it.
- Link "penalty".
- "Adnan Maric," diacritic on the c.
- Link header.
- "quarter final" vs "semi-final" hyphenation or nay?
- " and it was" -> "which was".
- " striker Adebayo Akinfenwa. Akifenwa pulled " Akinfenwa Akinfenwa....
- Different links for Chelsea Academy.
- "southern Group C" capital S.
- "in late August." I would hyphenate, but hey...
- "with a penalty. Goals" unlink because you'll link it before.
- "but strikes by" I would say "from" rather than "by".
- " with multiple yellow" how many?
- "due to the unusual format of the competition, the winner scoring two points in the group table and the loser just one" this feels like an odd place to start describing the competition format. Probably better to discuss this when talking about the trophy format in general. And "just one" point for the loser seems a strange way to put it when they normally get zero points.
- " following defeats" two?
- "Kane Hemmings scored an equaliser" link Kane.
- "would take the bonus point." first mention of this.
- "hosted Scunthorpe United. Scunthorpe dominated" quick repeat.
- "Chelsea were... Chelsea therefore " repetitive.
- "goalkeeper Simon" no need.
- "had beaten all the defenders. " truly?
- "Hemmings. Hemmings" you know...
- "from a seated position" curious wording.
That takes me to the Match section. The Rambling Man (Stay indoors, stay safe!!!!) 10:20, 3 August 2020 (UTC)
- Oldham is an A.F.C.
- "including Chris Stokes for Ollie Clarke " not 100% certain if that's in or out.
- "Jodi Jones. " no need for Jodi.
- "full strength side " hyphenate?
- " singing loudly. After a quiet opening" strange contradiction, I know you meant the game was uneventful initially but reads odd...
- " a Gaël Bigirimana goal," no need fo Gael.
- Burundian, if international then you could link the national team.
- Remove Jordan.
- Link corner.
- " with striker Chris Maguire" no need for Chris.
- "Ryan Haynes made contact with Kane Hemmings" likewise.
- "Attacking on the break following the Coventry attack...." attack attack ..... (no, not Man Utd)
- "Marvin Johnson received" no need for Marv.
- "whistle blew" "whistle was blown"
- "The Coventry Telegraph in" overlinked and should be in italics.
That's up to the Second half. The Rambling Man (Stay indoors, stay safe!!!!) 15:57, 3 August 2020 (UTC)
- "and there were no changes by" ->"with no changes made by"
- "Kane Hemmings then" de-Kane
- " thought he'd been" no contractions.
- Stuart Beavon - no need for his first name (also I missed it a couple of sections earlier too).
- "when George Thomas beat " same.
- And Sercombe.
- "fired in" little journalese.
- Link free kick.
- "they finally got on the scoresheet" again, a little journalistic.
- Followed by two short short sentences.
- I think you should have linked Rob Hall in the First half section and thus lose his first name here.
- "seemed likely to be sent off," speculative, not encyclopdic.
- I may be just making this up, but I seem to recall that kit depictions should have their logos removed. I see some swooshes there on Cov.
- I have no idea, to be honest. It seems to be generated using a pattern called "_nikeblack" on the {{Football kit}} template. There are such swooshes seen on Manchester City's shirt at 2019 FA Cup Final GA, and also some on the Cov kit at the 2018 EFL League Two play-off Final article (which, apparently, is also listed as a GA... who knew?!) — Amakuru (talk) 10:00, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
- Where are player nationalities referenced?
- "George Thomas was " -george. Could say "Coventry's George"?
- "Mark Robins commented" de-Mark.
- " of Millwall for" Pipe has typo.
- " the League Trophy" EFL Trophy.
- Mark and Michael begone.
- Check ref titles for spaced hyphens, should be spaced en-dashes.
- Scorelines in ref titles should also use en-dashes.
- A lot of the league reports for BBC Sport are provided by Press Association, that should be reflected in the references.
- "The Guardian" should be in italics.
- Ref 38 work should be in i÷talics.
- And ref 40.
That's all I have. The Rambling Man (Stay indoors, stay safe!!!!) 17:09, 3 August 2020 (UTC)
- @The Rambling Man: I think I've looked at all your points now. Cheers — Amakuru (talk) 13:48, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
- I'm happy with it all. But one thing is nagging, and it's "It was played between Coventry City and Oxford United, both of League One, and decided the winner of the 2016–17 EFL Trophy, a knockout tournament for the 48 teams in League One and League Two and 16 Category One Academy sides representing teams from the Premier League and EFL Championship. " which is somewhat of a Beowulf-style sentence. If we split this nicely, I think we're done. The Rambling Man (Hands! Face! Space!!!!) 19:09, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
- Amakuru just this final point holding up promotion... The Rambling Man (Hands! Face! Space!!!!) 08:08, 31 August 2020 (UTC)
- @The Rambling Man: apologies, I had completely missed this. I've reworded it into shorter sentences now, let me know what you think. Cheers — Amakuru (talk) 08:22, 31 August 2020 (UTC)
- Amakuru yeah, no worries, happy now so promoting. The Rambling Man (Hands! Face! Space!!!!) 08:30, 31 August 2020 (UTC)
