With 2018 Surabaya church bombings? Spiderone 16:56, 13 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Title rename[edit]

This article is now called Surabaya church bombings. It doesn't matter if they happened in 2018, what matters is they were Surabaya church bombings. I hope that's not controversial. InedibleHulk (talk) 23:56, 14 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Okay so this is bugging me out.. the title "Surabaya bombings" actually sounds right, rather than church bombings.. the attacks basically happened on a police institution and an apartment complex as well.. so it should be renamed to Surabaya bombings.. I won't comment on the "2018" though. PaPa PaPaRoony (talk) 02:21, 15 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Agree, since churches is not the only target of the bombing. Also I'd prefer to mentioned the year, in case if such tragedy struck again (hopefully not and never), there will no disambiguation. Ckfasdf (talk) 02:27, 15 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, it's a little incomplete. I thought the church bombings were numerous and atrocious enough to be the defining feature, and headlines seem to generally agree. But if that's no good, Surabaya bombings is concise and precise enough for me, too. I'm just a bit partial to three-word phrases. Absolutely no sources call anything we call the "2018 anything" that, so it's never a COMMONNAME, just a crap compromise we use when we must. If another series of bombings happen in Surabaya later, we can adjust later.
We could qualify any article numerous ways, if we're just going by our imagination. Oprah Winfrey (American entertainer), 1940 Katyn massacre and Eiffel Tower (pre-apocalyptic version) are all a bit too much. InedibleHulk (talk) 02:57, 15 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This article is now called Surabaya bombings. Still doesn't matter if they happened in 2018, but the police station and apartment matter. I hope this isn't controversial. InedibleHulk (talk) 03:03, 15 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The apartment complex was not a target, and the explosion was due to the bombs exploding prematurely. The police station was in response to arrests. The whole operation was aimed at local churches, and the title should remain Surabaya church bombings. I find the reasons given for the change to be wanting. 2001:56A:F569:F400:2040:6A0D:BE02:521A (talk) 16:25, 17 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I’m inclined to say that the year is necessary, but as it is now Surabaya hasn’t been bombed in other years. I guess it should be fine for now since there only a single “Surabaya bombings” possible. Juxlos (talk) 07:01, 15 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Another attack, different city[edit]

There has been another attack to the Indonesian police. However, the location was in Pekanbaru. Since the attack was linked with the attack in Surabaya, I suggest to add the attack in Pekanbaru with the Surabaya bombings. The situation is still fluid. However, I'm pretty sure that the attack doesn't need a stand-alone article.PaPa PaPaRoony (talk) 05:09, 16 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I might make one considering there were direct victims. However, the attack is sufficiently far and timed away that I would say they should be split. Maybe mention in the lead that a follow-up attack occurred - judging from the situation we might have more in the very near future unfortunately. Juxlos (talk) 09:14, 16 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Aye, seems a different story. But obvious that it'll be treated as part of some "wave of terror" by reliable sources, so should be literally linked to this one, either in the lead or Aftermath (or both). And if these are stages of a real coordinated plot rather than the European sort of panicked pattern-weaving, all the more reason to connect the dots.
