As a human being
Removed this section as it could be considered very libelous, especially without cited sources, per NPOV and Biographies of Living persons policies. Jfischer5175 19:00, 26 September 2006 (UTC)jfischer5175
I noticed something interesting.
It states "Dostum is a Muslim." However, he is listed under "Afghan atheists". I find that to be contradicting. --Pgecaj (talk) 20:49, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
- Looks like vandalism, since Dostum prays at Mosque regularly. Sherurcij (speaker for the dead) 23:33, 14 March 2009 (UTC)
- Wasn't a vandalism. It came from this source: Dostum is an atheist who has switched allegiances numerous times... Abdullais4u (talk) 11:18, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
Remove humorous nickname
I recommend removing the nicknames noted in the first line (Heavy D, D. Diddy) because they are not serious. They cite a National Geographic article, which (1) does not mention D.Diddy at all, and (2) only uses Heavy D to humorous effect. It does not state anywhere that Heavy D is an actual nickname for Dostum. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.80.206.47 (talk) 22:53, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
Comment
Dostum is a muslim and I gave him the nickname "Heavy D" which is only used by a select few who know him personally. Never heard him called anything else except "Dostum" which is a nickname which means "our friend" - RYP —Preceding unsigned comment added by RYP (talk • contribs) 23:57, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
Reason for locked article?
There should be a stated reason for the article not being editable. It is currently full of subjective spin, including the characterization of the Soviet intervention as an "invasion." The label was applied in the West during a tense period of the Cold War, at a time when the US government was hiding the truth about the situation. Responsible media today would not use a word like "invasion" to describe an intervention requested by a government, or by a governmental faction involved in a civil war. "Invasion" is generally reserved for uninvited incursions; the Soviets were already deployed in Afghanistan per the government's request. Even when they assassinated Amin, they were acting at the request of his opponents in the government. While it can accurately be called a coup d'etat, it's not "invasion" when they were already deployed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.170.61.200 (talk) 19:19, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for your interest. The article is semi-protected. This means that only editors who have made at least 10 edits and have had a registered user name for four days can edit the article (see WP:SEMI). So if you register a user name and start contributing to Wikipedia, you will soon be able to edit the article. If you do so, please make sure that any material you insert is verifiable and supported by a reliable source. Also bear in mind that this is a biography of a living person and thus subject to the provisions in WP:BLP. It's a good idea to read these guidelines before starting to edit in earnest.
- For now, I have changed invasion in the headline to the title of the cited subarticle. However, note that google books has plenty of references to "Soviet invasion of Afghanistan", including recent titles. Best wishes, JN466 17:45, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
Dostum
surely Dostum was an anti-Soviet fighter and not a pro-Soviet fighter as suggested in the first sentence —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.158.142.146 (talk) 12:12, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
Actually Dostum was part of the Pro-Soviet communist regime and that is where he got his rank from. When he turned against the Najibullah regime, the soviets were long gone. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.181.10.60 (talk) 21:11, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
Involvement in heroin production
Lawrence Wilkerson in a recent interview with the The Real News Network states: "Dostum is now running the huge... they're not just passing the raw opium product anymore - Dostum is now running a huge state-of-the art factory inside Afghanistan which is producing the heroin." I suggest this should be included in this article. Perhaps corroborated with other sources. I'd also be fascinated to get more information about this heroin factory, its geographi coordinates for one thing. __meco (talk) 12:44, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
Seems like this is a perfect example of where Wiki should endeavor to separate facts from fiction and view their role as being an encyclopedia rather than a soapbox for random vandals. Its clear that Dostum doesn't have fans (he did seriously kick the taliban's butt right? and has ethnic rivals to his region) But I personally would love to see the truth behind many of these allegations or rumors. For example Wilkerson will say just about anything to get press Would love to get the GPS coordinates from Mr Wilkerson for this "State of the art" factory. Maybe its inside Dostum's hollow volcano?? :)) - A bemused reader. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.212.175.200 (talk) 23:53, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

On November 24, 2001 (change from 2000), 300 Taliban soldiers retreated after the Siege of Kunduz by American and Aghan military forces. The taliban laid down their weapons a few miles from the city of Mazar-i-Sharif. They eventually surrendered peacefully to Dostum.

please add some more information on Abdul Rashid Dostum which perhaps i m providing u with, hope u find it relevant and modify the text accordingly "General Rashid Dostum is believed to be the most ruthless commander who retained his links with the closest allies during the soviet-afghan war.He is an extremely violent man with extremely violent records for extracting evidences and information from the witnesses to bring about justice to the people. He was actively involved in elimination of the Taliban regime from Afghanistan with the help of the U.S.-led NATO forces which were operating in Afghanistan after the September 11 attacks in the U.S., since then he has been directing his forces to bring Taliban on its verge of extinction. So far he has managed to capture high profile commanders of the Afghan Taliban and other terror outfits. He has spent a great deal of time serving in the armed forces and battling against terrorism with assistance from the United Nations. The most recent being this - Dostum following the instructions from the UN handed over some 7000-8000(check for the right numbers) talibs after they surrendered as their lives were promised but many of them perished and some are believed to be killed delebrately by the American commandos, when asked about the numbers Dostum said that only over 3000 insurgents surrendered, however, there are absolute evidences that over 7000 had surrendered and many were murdered on their way to Shebherghan by packing them in air deficit containers, shooting indiscriminately on the walls of the containers rather than shooting on the roofs of the containers in order to make holes for them to breath in air. Moreover, the mass graves discovered on the moonscape of Dasht-e-leili have raised questions over the Pentagon.Although, this catastrophic event on Afghan soil is still being investigated following the orders from United Nations." please add this information in your article cum autobiography of Abdul Rashid Dostum. if not the whole of this stuff please add at least the most relevant info on your page thank you.

Needs referneces and a picture. Information is also a bit to fragmentary, there could be a better narrative flow. Eixo 15:11, 8 August 2006 (UTC) |
