Chicago restaurant[edit]

Ahmad or Ahmed[edit]

In Afghanistan it is commonly spelled as Ahmad, and I believe that his U.S. documents has his first name as Ahmad.--AlimNaz (talk) 18:46, 13 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I do understand that "Ahmad" is mostly used in the west, but "Ahmed" still is the original pronunciation. I think it should stay the way it is being the right pronunciation, as the literature already mentions "". I think Ahmad in the Qur'an is just for a style purpose. Is there a consensus to keep this page at its current location, "Ahmed" or change it to "Ahmad" or any other variant spelling? An edit war seems to be brewing over the issue with a page move and a reversion, plus an editor changing all of the other instances in the article to disagree with the current title. Other input? Actually if you carefully read all sources and then calculate all the different sources, majority of them use "Ahmad". I'm sure that his birth records has Ahmad because that's what everyone in Afghanistan use and I'm sure his original Afghan passport or US passport has "Afghan". The correct way to spell the name is Ahmad Wali Karzai, not just because people in Afghanistan commonly spell their names this way (i.e. Ahmad Shah Durrani, Ahmad Shah Massoud, Ahmad Zia Massoud, Ahmad Wali, Ali Ahmad Jalali, Ahmadzai, Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai etc.), but the BBC News and others have it this way. BBC is known to be more accurate when they report news. Just because a few news editors wrongly put it as "Ahmed" doesn't mean that Afghans must change their names from "Ahmad" to "Ahmed" or every encyclopedia must write it that way. News reporters don't waste time about learning which way is the correct way to spell it, especially when they have to quickly write an article about someone who just died. In an encyclopedia we are not short of time and we have to be as accurate as possible. Also, Karz is not a different town, it is considered part of the city of Kandahar and is located on the outskirts (southeastern) of that city. See this Panoramio map. The 2 opposers of "Ahmad", JohnCengiz77 (talk · contribs) and Heironymous Rowe (talk · contribs), appear as people from Turkey and in their country people are commonly named Ahmed. See Ahmad#Transliterations. I feel that they are imposing their Turkish POV here on the Afghans by persistenly changing the sujbect's name from Ahmad to Ahmed. I am also not Turkish or in Turkey or in any way connected to Turks or Afghans for that matter, accusing others of ethnic bias is not the way to win an argument. I didn't mean you being a citizen of Turkey or editing from that country. I was trying to say that your edits relate to that country. You think that the spelling sould be consistent? Do you not see in the BBC News profile "Ahmad"? I called you opposer because you twice reverted Ahmad back to Ahmed. Mentioning someone's nationality or ethnicity is not something to jump around, my ID says I'm ethnic Pashtun. These include official Afghan government and United Nations as well as BBC and other most reliable international and local Afghan most trusted news sources. These are just a few, there are many more sources for Ahmad. On the contrary, the sources who use "Ahmed" are just unfamiliar news editors. They made their own choice by spelling it as Ahmed instead of Ahmad. Nobody that I know of yet is named Ahmed in Afghanistan.--NorthernPashtun (talk) 21:46, 8 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It is neither necessary nor practical to list all of the 'NATO Personnel' and 'World Leaders' in this article. As long as there is a reference to a list of the leaders who commented there is no need to add a list of people in this article. Unless perhaps someone would like to add an article of their comments towards this event like how it was done with the recent terrorist attacks in India. Introduction[edit]

Assassination section is much too long[edit]

It dwarfs the rest of the article. We should shorten it, and expand (a little) sections on Karzai's actual role in Afghanistan during the U.S. war and occupation.
