Question - Infobox caption

[edit]

Do we really need to state "(L to R)" - (left to right) - in the caption? Doesn't WP:CAPTION state under "Criteria for a Good Caption: 1. clearly identifies the subject of the picture, without detailing the obvious"? GUtt01 (talk) 21:39, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Live Rounds Debate

[edit]

Should information pertaining to live rounds be added in, while it is still being debated, or held back until the details are finalised? I know we got a citation stating the numbers of quarter-finalists for this year's contest, but should that be stated in this while the rest is being debated on? GUtt01 (talk) 23:20, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@GUtt01: The info included is perfectly fine and sourced... The Futon Critic and Zap2it are fine to use with the info they currently have listed. And FYI, On Camera Audiences is perfectly reliable- it is the website many free tickets to attend tapings of shows are given out on (it's actually how I was able to see AGT in-person when it was in NJ/NY...) For further confirmation, check the AGT website and click on the 'Tickets' option- it will lead you directly to the same website. Magitroopa (talk) 08:04, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
And also... "The following article is a press release issued by the aforementioned network and/or company." Things like this from The Futon Critic have been/are still perfectly acceptable. Magitroopa (talk) 08:31, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Magitroopa: But how do they know that? Isn't there any further citations out there with information from the production company and the network? I would be more comfortable with knowledge from them that officially confirms this. Just because these two citations seem fine, doesn't exactly provide confirmation that the information is accurate and confirmed.GUtt01 (talk) 09:13, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Let's not also forget we don't know if this will be the case - with the situation in America with COVID-19, I'm not holding my hopes up high this will remain the case, unless something changes to ensure it will. GUtt01 (talk) 09:18, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Judges' Cuts guest judges?

[edit]

Did they have any for this season, given what they did with filming of this stage of the contest? GUtt01 (talk) 09:22, 10 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I (personally) have not seen anything about any guest judges- however, that's not to say that automatically confirms there won't be any. However, I feel it should be know that as per that Deadline article, there is only one Judge Cuts episode. With that in mind, take a look at the image used in the article. I'd say that if there are any, they could just be brought in via webcam/video chat. Magitroopa (talk) 15:11, 10 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I think knowing if they used a guest judge for this is a critical point in the article - if they didn't, it would mean amending info on format changes to reflect this. No guest judges for this would also mean no use of a golden buzzer, and thus removal of the icon in the table key. That means having help from anyone who saw the episode to confirm this point of discussion. GUtt01 (talk) 15:34, 10 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
FWIW, I found another article from USA Today, published on June 30, that provided a look at how the rest of the season will work. I hope it proves illuminating regarding the questions posed here. --Jgstokes (talk) 06:53, 12 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I think that is already a citation on the article, but still double-checked it for information. GUtt01 (talk) 07:26, 12 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Participants Home Region

[edit]

Please make certain that participants location they hail from is denoted as such:

  • If from a Major US City (which would be well known to many outside the United States), state the city's name only; don't divulge into city neighbourhood/district
  • If from a city, town, or village that would not be known to those within/outside the United States, please state the place's name, followed by the US State it resides in
  • If from a location outside the United States, state name of city, town, village and country they come from.

GUtt01 (talk) 12:07, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Also, we must have an official citation for participants that are into the live round. This could save us problems from people adding or removing anyone from the list, whether they are in or not. GUtt01 (talk) 13:01, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Added and also in table header of the acts table. 'Resound' was the last act missing from the table (prior to my recent edits, only 43 acts of the 44 were listed in the table). I've also updated all the act names to reflect how they are named in the press release- probably the biggest change was 'Alexis & The Puppy Pals' to 'Alexis Brownley' as the press release shows. Only one that doesn't go by the press release is Vincent Marcus, who the press release misspells as 'Vincent Marcs'. Otherwise, all the act names and ordering should be good now... (If only they included the other info like their ages and where they're from!) Magitroopa (talk) 18:52, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Magitroopa: Nice one! It's just that with all the names added, we needed to make certain we had a source to confirm this. Otherwise we'd have to question who was entered. Location and ages would be something useful to have, but maybe some of the media outlets in America do what British media outlets do - provide the information that other sources miss out. So we need to keep a firm look out for these. Also, be careful changing names to those in press release - they might not put in the right names to what they used when they audition; only exception is if they change their name before the live rounds. GUtt01 (talk) 21:32, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, the biggest change is just Alexis- and seeing the AGT YouTube video, the act is referred to as 'Alexis & The Puppy Pals' in the title, and 'Alexis Brownley' in the description, so sticking with Brownley from the press release seems to be fine. All the other changes are either small extension changes (Ex: 'The Spyros Bros' to 'Spyros Brothers', 'CA Wildcats' to 'C.A. Wildcats'), capitalizations (Ex: 'Malik DOPE' to 'Malik Dope'), or spacings (Ex: 'Bonebreakers' to 'Bone Breakers', 'Frenchie Babyy' to 'FrenchieBabyy'). The only other 'big change' would be 'Dancetown' to 'Dance Town Family'. That being said, they should all be fine as they are from the PR (minus the spelling mistake). Contestants Announced for Second Round of Live Shows

[edit]

Hello again, everyone! According to information in this article (which can be found at the bottom of that page), the talent lineup for the second week of live performances. As a result, that information will need to be added to this article. But since I am a relatively new contributor to AGT articles, I am worried about being bold and making the edits myself, because I don't want to mess up the layout of the page. Above and beyond that, however, it seems uncertain whether Simon Cowell will be back for next week's episodes, or if Kelly Clarkson will sub-in for him again. So I wanted to open these issues up for discussion here. Thanks in advance. --Jgstokes (talk) 01:16, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I've just added the table. Don't have a source included yet for it (Not 100% if GoldDerby is RS...), but we could also just wait for the video like is currently sourced for the first week (Not sure if we should keep that one in just in case or if we should remove it).
In regards to Simon/a guest/only three judges- pretty sure it's fine with Simon in the table like it currently is. While we don't know if he'll be recovered to be on the show and it's a bit original research, it would also be original research assuming that Clarkson will return, there will be a new guest judge, or if there will be only three judges. Probably fine to just include him on the table for now and it can be updated as we get more info on next week (also worth noting that as per this tweet from Clarkson, it seems she's done no matter what...). Additional Relevant Notes on Live Shows

[edit]

Hello again, everyone! At the end of their live blog coverage of tonight's results show, GoldDerby shared the list of those competing next week, which can be found towards the end of this article. If GoldDerby is not sufficiently independent and reilable for Wikipedia standards, there are likely other sources that will confirm the information. In the meantime, there has also been some confusion in recent edits on the status of the group "Divas and Drummers of Compton". According to this page, which may also be unreliable per Wikipedia standards, with one of their number testing positive for COVID-19, the entire group has needed to withdraw from the competition as a precautionary measure. The page further notes that they were (or will be) replaced in the top 44 by Wesley Wiliams. Again, if more reliable sourcing is needed on any of these matters, we can wait until it is provided, but wanted to note the finding of the information either way. Thanks. --Jgstokes (talk) 01:30, 20 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A fan-run wiki is 100% WP:NOTRS. Wait for a reliable source for this information. Currently, Divas and Drummers of Compton are still in as per sources. And don't use it as a source here as it is also NOTRS, but here are the acts performing next week. Process of elimination is then used for who is on week 4. Magitroopa (talk) 01:34, 20 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for confirming what I already suspected. If we have to wait for a more reliable source on that, not a problem. I have no doubt that if it's accurate information, it will be officially confirmed, and there is no rush involved, since the relevant data is not time-sensitive at this point. Thanks again. --Jgstokes (talk)
And just as an update in regards to guest judges... obviously we don't want any original research, but based off of this post, we may have no guest judge this week. Magitroopa (talk) 04:13, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Alex Hooper buzzer

[edit]

Hello, not sure how to use this talk page but Sofia did mean to buzz Alex. I was part of the virtual audience and during the ad break she said to Howie & Heidi "I can't believe you didn't buzz him" . — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:C7F:6E38:BB00:88AC:649D:5A48:1D0B (talk) 02:13, 2 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I was also in the virtual audience and I can confirm that Sofia said that during a commercial. Also, we have included buzzers pressed during comments in the summarys (eg ThroWings season 11 quarterfinal) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jacktheboy2003 (talkcontribs)

Just added. I had thought there were previous seasons where a similar thing happened and it was just noted that the buzzer was hit during comments or just as part of the act itself (such as one of the magician auditions in a previous season), but wasn't able to find any examples and didn't want to go digging during the show. However, thanks to that mention of ThroWings in S11, I found this video of it happening and so I've added it now. Thanks. Magitroopa (talk) 03:15, 2 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please Change the Hometown for Kenadi dodds to North Logan, Utah Benjamin chanlr (talk) 04:07, 25 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have access to any reliable sources that verify this change is both accurate and necessary? It is all well and good to some extent to say she's from North Logan, but Wikipedia goes on information found in reliable sources rather than information from any individual editor. I just ran my own search on the matter, and some sources list Logan, while others list Northern Logan. Unless we can find a sufficient number of sources that verify one or the other, it may be hard to defend either or both as more meritorious and accurate by Wikipedia's measurement. Thanks. --Jgstokes (talk) 06:32, 25 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
