I removed the "Editions" section from the article because it only mentions the four editions by Carl Fischer, and leaves out the original edition (published 1864), the edition pictured at the top of the article (1879), and countless others. The section is incomplete, USA-centric, and borders on an advertisement for the Carl Fischer "Platinum Edition". --dbolton (talk) 04:28, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There have been three separate editions of the Conservatory published,[dubiousdiscuss] and there is a new edition of the third (published in 2005).

1894, 1936, and 1982 Editions

Arban himself wrote the preface to the 1894 edition, and no one else added to this in the 1936 edition. Claude Gordon wrote the preface to the 1982 edition. He also provided his own notes on Arban's conservatory and made amendments where necessary.

Platinum Edition (2005)

The Platinum Edition of 2005 includes Arban's original preface and Gordon's 1982 preface. The platinum edition also includes abridgements made by Edwin Goldman and comments by the editor. John Walker, the pianist for the accompaniment CD unique to this edition, includes a short letter following the beginning acknowledgements and above the CD's track list. The edition also includes the 1982 publisher's note on the Arban Method.

Weasel Words?

I don't think the comment about "weasel words" is appropriate here. Who goes around adding stuff like that to articles anyway?

The title of this article

[edit]

I think the title, Arban method, needs to be reconsidered. The article is about the book, and the title (as it is now) is in italics (italics indicates a book title). But the book has never been titled "Arban method". I suggest that the title of the article ought to be one of the more recent English language titles of the book (Arban's Complete Conservatory Method for Trumpet), or (without the italics): "Arban’s method book". - Jonkintorval (talk) 22:09, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Because this article is about a book, and the book has an English language title that is easily and commonly recognizable (Arban's Complete Conservatory Method for Trumpet), I think the title of this article should be the title of the book. This would conform with other WP articles that are also about a particular book.Jonkintorval (talk) 15:42, 12 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
