What's with the 'Football (soccer)' thing?

Why are people using soccer nowadays? Can't they just use football, the use of the word on its own (ie. without 'American' in front of it) suggests the game where there are two teams of 11 players kicking a football around a football pitch, doesn't it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by MasterOfHisOwnDomain (talkcontribs) 17:02, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
