transfer of talk from talk page of article that it is no longer germane to, bcz the content in question has indeed been split off

"Evacuated" or "routed"?

[edit]

The following talk item was originally contributed by user:Tgoll774 within Talk:2014 Eastern Syria offensive#Battle of Tabqa air base, 4 days after the proposal to create the article page accompanying this talk page, but weeks before the proposal was acted on. I have now eliminated the essentially verbatim duplication of the long section that resulted, by turning 2014 Eastern Syria offensive#Battle of Tabqa air base into a section-stub that links to the article accompanying this talk page.

Pictures released by IS show at least four maybe five MiG 21Bs captured. Base clearly looks overrun, so it was not evacuated but routed. http://www.longwarjournal.org/archives/2014/08/islamic_state_photos.php

Tgoll's lk provides numerous photos with Arabic captions, what may or not be translations of them, and lots of chat (w/o evidence of credentials that i noticed). I don't see any sign of a reliable source, tho the pics could be reason to go looking for RSs.
Tangentially but perhaps far more importantly, MiG 21B? (Not, i assume, same as MiG 21bis.) And readers deserve RS better than the page at that ext-lk, which mentions only who-knows-whose supposed identification of "MiG[s]" -- and without even mention of "MiG 21", let alone "MiG 21B".
   One should let
the mis-identification of the East-Bloc K-13 Atoll missiles (as the U.S. Sidewinder that it emulates)
persisting for 8 or 9 weeks
and about 230 edits
(in spite of
its attribution on WP being to a Twitter tweet,
and the casual "clearly looks", as if there were not a specialties called "photo interpretation" and forensic investigation,
and the lack of seasoning of the editor --14 edits and 9 days)
jointly and severally serve as object-lessons on making a decent effort to get it right the first time, and on frequently paying attention to others' additions and changes.
